My Journey
I am a registered dietitian who believes food should be enjoyed and nutrition should be simple. My goal as a dietitian is to help you make peace with your food so you can find joy in nourishing yourself and your family.
From a young age, science has fascinated me. We are forever asking questions in an attempt to deepen our understanding of science and strengthen the significance of our discoveries. I recall spending a week of my seventh-grade summer immersed in a forensics science camp, an experience so impactful I earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in forensics my first time through college and intended to work in a forensics lab. However, as we all know, plans have a tendency to change...
My journey to nutrition and dietetics began with pregnancy and motherhood. Through adolescence and into my late twenties, my relationship with my body could best be described as self-loathing, and it carried over into my food choices. I spent years fueling my body in a manner discordant from my core beliefs. I fell prey to style magazines selling photoshopped ideals and rigid food rules, to television commercials advertising diet pills, meal replacements and crash diets. Each drastic attempt to fit a rigid, unrealistic beauty ideal pushed me farther away from my true self, and this incongruence left me miserable.
The transition into motherhood was my turning point. I knew I wanted my children to grow up in a home devoid of negative body talk, where we celebrate what our bodies are capable of and we fuel them in a way that supports our physical and emotional wellbeing. I decided to return to school while I stayed home with our three young kiddos, eventually earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in human nutrition.
After completing my dietetic internship I immediately went to work as a dietitian in an outpatient eating disorder clinic. I’ve devoted the last few years to working with individuals struggling with a wide range of feeding and eating disorders, including loss of control eating disorders, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. I also frequently work with children and families to resolve selective eating and other issues around family mealtime dynamics. Other diseases and conditions frequently addressed in my practice include sports nutrition, prenatal and maternal health, PCOS, lipid disorders, and cardiovascular diseases.
Away from the office, I am a nature lover, bookworm, amateur writer, runner, Pinterest-obsessed cook, and proud mom to three amazing kiddos who enjoy competitive swim team and violin, viola and drums.
My Philosophy
In my work, I strive to help people gain confidence and trust in their ability to feed themselves and their families in a way that aligns with their vision and values. I incorporate evidence-based science, intuitive eating principles, creativity and flexibility to help others redefine health and discover their own path to wellness and food peace.
I believe nutrition involves so much more than eating – culture, connection, health status, personal values, and resources all make nutrition and food deeply personal. In my practice I address all these elements in addition to sleep habits, self-care routines, body acceptance, nutrition education, and food-related skills development. I stress a non-diet approach to nutrition. I value progress over perfection and believe all foods can fit into a healthy eating pattern.
Finally, I strongly believe in inclusivity. ALL people are welcome in my practice. I look forward to working with you!
